The Power of Beyoncé Takes Form At The Winter Olympics

February 11, 2018

2018 Winter Olympics Add Music with Lyrics for the First Time in History

The Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea are allowing licensed music with lyrics to play during ice skating performances. French figure skater, Maé-Bérénice Méité rocked the ice with “Who Runs the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé. It’s amazing how lyrics can change a performance from emotional to empowering. Other songs used during figure skating were Mariah Carey’s, “My All” and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s, “Despacito”. The end of the 2014 Winter Olympics enacted the “lyric law”, opening all kinds of options for skaters and ice dancers. Maybe now we can get a “Baby’s Got Back” doubles routine.
