Russian scientists hope to bring back 50,000-year-old cave lion Jurassic Park-style

November 15, 2017

On the bank of Tirekhtykh River in the Abyisky district of Yakutia in Siberia, a tiny animal was found “perfectly preserved” with its paw clearly visible and resting on the head of the animal. Because of the perfect preservation, it has made scientists hopeful that the animal could be cloned and the species brought back to life.

The creature is believed to be an extinct cave lion cub about eight weeks old from the Ice Age, about 50,000 years ago. Scientists can’t say how it died but did note that since it was permanently frozen it helped stop the decaying of the remains.
